about SYMBIOSIS

2 circus artists, 2 handwritings, 1 performance. Symbiosis is a contemporary circus diptych created by Kolja Huneck and Luuk Brantjes combining circus, magie nouvelle and object theatre. Symbiosis dives deep into the tension and balance between humans and their natural surroundings. Each travelling their own path within a surreal universe, the artists explore how one relates to the transient world around.
Working with materials that originate from oil, Kolja shapes a world where vinyl records are not limited to playing music, but become part of intricate juggling patterns, where the fragility of vinyls and the roughness of asphalt meet in absurd and humorous ways.

Whereas Kolja manipulates the materials, Luuk finds himself in a position where the material manipulates him. Through acrobatics, he is discovering the dialogue between body and material, challenging gravity, playing with risk, finding codependence. With a specially developed apparatus, Luuk dives head-first into all corners of the dome, constantly falling in and out of balance.
In Symbiosis, juggling and acrobatics melt into a surprising choreographic dialogue between artists, objects, material and space.

The customised dome tent becomes a performance space where these elements intertwine, inviting the audience into an immersive world.
